The Southeast Evanston Association (SEA) kicked off its first BACK YARD HAPPY HOUR Friday, July 22, 2016 in the 700 block of Judson Avenue. Our goal was to acquaint people with our organization, to spread the word about our mission and the scope of our activities, and to take the pulse of what’s on people’s minds.
Although it was a predictably hot and humid evening, a robust crowd attended. In addition to the SEA Board and other SEA members at large, many new faces were present. Even State Representative Robyn Gabel stopped by to chat, as well as Ted Perez from Sketchbook Brewery. Ted graciously donated a case of Sketchbook’s delicious beer to compliment the tasty appetizers and other cold drinks on hand.
Throughout the gathering, important information flowed back and forth and significant community concerns were brought to the attention of the SEA representatives. One such unease concerned recent news that the City was considering selling the open parking lot just east of the library, at Church Street and Chicago Avenue. Other questions involved SEA’s opinion of the Northwestern University campus developments, and how at-large members can get involved in SEA initiatives.
In addition to our first informational Happy Hour mentioned above, SEA is planning its Annual Meeting for October. The meeting will feature a presentation on a topic of importance to southeast Evanston residents, as well as all Evanston residents. We are currently searching for a speaker and welcome your suggestions. We also want to hear about any other ideas or concerns you may have. Your participation in our association is always welcome.
